Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 20, 2026  ·  Last updated: June 20, 2026

Ariv is an iOS app for IELTS Speaking practice ("we", "us", or "our" refers to the Ariv team). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Ariv, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

By using Ariv you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the app.

1. Information We Collect

Audio recordings. When you complete a speaking practice session, Ariv captures a short audio recording of your response. This recording is transmitted to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription into text. The audio is not stored permanently on our servers after transcription is complete.

Transcribed text and scores. The text transcription of your response is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate an IELTS band score and feedback. Your transcription and feedback are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage so you can review your session history.

Usage data. Ariv tracks the number of free practice attempts you have used per day. This count is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Subscription data. If you subscribe to Ariv, your subscription is managed by RevenueCat. RevenueCat may collect your App Store receipt and subscription status. We do not receive or store your payment card details. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Device identifiers. Ariv uses an anonymous device identifier to manage your daily usage count and subscription status. This identifier is not linked to your name, email address, or any other personal information.

2. How We Use Your Information

The information collected is used solely to provide the Ariv service:

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than delivering the app's core functionality.

3. Third-Party Services

Ariv relies on the following third-party services to function. Each service has its own privacy policy.

4. Data Retention

Audio recordings are not retained after transcription is complete. Transcriptions and scores are stored locally on your device and remain there until you delete the app or clear its data. We do not maintain a server-side database of your session history.

5. Data Sharing and Sale

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties except as described in Section 3 above (the services required to operate the app) and as required by law.

6. Microphone Access

Ariv requires access to your device's microphone to record your speaking responses. You will be prompted to grant this permission when you first attempt a practice session. You can revoke microphone access at any time in your iPhone's Settings app. Revoking access will prevent you from completing practice sessions.

7. Children's Privacy

Ariv is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

Because session history is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by removing the app. For any other data-related requests — including requests to understand what data has been transmitted to third-party services — please contact us directly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Ariv after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
